about

"The new album offers more of what made the first so great. Dream-like lyrics cover everything from romance, to the indie scene, to the death of their hometown. Singer Tim Ford's satin smooth vocals are fantastic, with guitarist Ryan Stanley's back-up singing meshing perfectly; it's hard to imagine two voices better suited to sing together. Artists from other bands offered their services during the recording of the album, including Casey Mecija, Colin Fisher, Andrew Scott, Jessie Stein, Leon Taheny and Aiden Koper; that's a line-up that rivals even that of Canadian indie favourites Broken Social Scene."

Three years in the making, Smalltown Devotion/Hometown Compulsion is the follow-up to 2002′s Days That Stand Still EP. Recorded in the basement of The Ford Plant, the all-ages venue operated by Ford, the album provides a portrait of how the group have matured. Days That Stand Still, along with their first EP, We’re Running Out Of Places To Drive, were both composed when the act were in their teens. Since then they’ve become better players and have learned to appreciate other styles of music, adding more diversity to their infectious mix of post-punk and indie rock sounds.
